SRINAGAR: A total of 22 empowerment hubs for women are functional across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh under the Government of India’s Mission Shakti scheme, according to official data from the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

Jammu and Kashmir currently has one State Hub for Empowerment of Women (SHEW) and 20 District Hubs for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), while Ladakh has one SHEW and two DHEWs operational in its districts.
The ministry said that all existing SHEWs and DHEWs across the country are required to have two gender specialists each, in line with Mission Shakti guidelines.
Regarding funding, Jammu and Kashmir received Rs 7.25 crore in 2023–24 and Rs 3.17 crore in 2024–25, amounting to a total of Rs 10.42 crore over the past two years. Ladakh received Rs 45.75 lakh each in 2022–23 and 2023–24, and Rs 59.25 lakh in 2024–25, bringing its total allocation to Rs 1.50 crore over three years.
Mission Shakti is a centrally sponsored scheme aimed at strengthening institutional mechanisms for women’s safety, support, and empowerment at the district and state levels. (KNO)
