Police from Parimpora station identified the deceased as Fareeda Begum, wife of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Maloora. She sustained grievous injuries when an unknown vehicle rammed into her two-wheeler. She was rushed to JVC Hospital Bemina, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Officials said Parimpora police shifted the body to the hospital for medico-legal formalities. Police have launched a case to trace the vehicle involved, which fled the spot after the collision.

Locals expressed anguish over recurring road accidents in the area, urging authorities to install traffic calming measures and strengthen surveillance to check rash driving.

A police officer said, “We are verifying CCTV footage from the vicinity, and efforts are underway to identify the vehicle. A case under relevant sections of law has been registered.”

Police have appealed to the public for information about the accident or the vehicle involved. (KNT)
