SRINAGAR: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary informed the Legislative Assembly that the government has already taken up the matter of the Srinagar-Bandipora-Gurez Highway with the Union Ministry for Road Transport & Highways through a series of communications, given its strategic importance.

Responding to a question from Nazir Ahmad Khan, the Deputy Chief Minister said the government has requested the declaration of the Srinagar-Sumbal-Bandipora-Gurez road, including the tunnel at Razdan Pass, as a National Highway. However, the sanction is still awaited. He emphasised that Gurez holds significant strategic importance due to its geographical location and proximity to the Line of Control (LoC).
He assured the House that the government would again take up the matter with the Central Government for early approval. Legislators Irshad Rasool Kar, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, and Hilal Akbar Lone also raised supplementary questions on the issue.kashmirlife
