SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Mechanical Engineering Graduates Association (JKMEGA) has raised serious concerns over the prolonged non-filling of engineering vacancies, warning that administrative stagnation is severely affecting key departments.

During a Guidance Council Meeting, JKMEGA members highlighted the urgent need to address the growing crisis, particularly in the mechanical engineering cadre. The association’s president pointed out that the Mechanical and Hospital Engineering Department (M&HED) Kashmir has been operating without a Chief Engineer and a Superintending Engineer for months, leading to stalled projects and disruption of essential services.

JKMEGA also revealed that several departments, including M&HED, Jal Shakti, and the Housing & Urban Development Department (H&UDD), are struggling due to a large number of unfilled positions. These include five Superintending Engineers (SEs), 18 Executive Engineers (XENs), 48 Assistant Executive Engineers (AEEs), and 50 Assistant Engineers (AEs).

Additionally, the association expressed frustration over the lack of promotions for Junior Engineers (JEs), who remain stuck in the same position despite being eligible for advancement. This stagnation has led to widespread demoralization among engineers and affected the efficiency of the departments.

JKMEGA urged the administration to refer vacant JE posts to the Services Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB) to create employment opportunities and strengthen the mechanical engineering workforce.

In an appeal to the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, and Secretary of Roads & Buildings (R&B), the association called for an immediate resolution to the issue. “Expediting appointments and promotions will not only restore efficiency in project execution but also enhance public service delivery,” JKMEGA stated.
