JDA Official Caught Taking ₹10,000 Bribe for Construction Permit

Srinagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau on Friday arrested a junior official of the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 in exchange for allowing construction work in the Ballain Domana area of Jammu.

Spokesperson in a statement, ACB received a complaint alleging that Kewal Krishan, a junior official of JDA, demanded a bribe of ₹20,000 from the complainant for permitting further construction of a double-storey building.

The complainant informed ACB that the accused had agreed to accept ₹10,000 as the first installment. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached ACB, seeking legal action against the public servant.

After conducting discreet verification that confirmed the demand, a case FIR No. 14/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Jammu, and investigation was initiated.

A trap team led by a gazetted officer was constituted, and the accused was caught red-handed while accepting ₹10,000 from the complainant. The trap was laid in the presence of independent witnesses.

The accused was immediately taken into custody, and the bribe money was recovered on the spot in accordance with legal procedures.

Simultaneously, a search was conducted at the residential premises of the accused located at Flore Haramkund Gajansoo, Tehsil Marh, District Jammu, in the presence of a magistrate and independent witnesses.

Officials said further investigation into the case is underway. (JKNS)
