According to several media reports, the stampede was triggered when a high-voltage power line suddenly snapped and came down, causing sudden chaos and panic among devotees.
Police arrived at the spot and immediately launched rescue efforts. “Around 35 injured individuals were taken to the hospital, where six fatalities have been confirmed,” said Haridwar SSP Pramendra Singh Dobal, as per a NDTV report.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his sorrow over the incident, stating that the situation is being closely monitored. “Deeply saddened by the news of a stampede en route to the Mansa Devi Temple in Haridwar. SDRF, local police, and rescue teams are on-site conducting relief operations,” Dhami posted on X.
The stampede unfolded during the holy month of Sawan, a time when Haridwar sees a surge of pilgrims, including Kanwariyas—devotees of Lord Shiva who travel to collect sacred water from the Ganga.
Meanwhile, rescue operations are underway to scour the area.kashmir life
