University of Kashmir Invites Applications for Visvesvaraya Ph.D. Scheme 2025: Three Positions Announced.
Overview of the Visvesvaraya Ph.D. Scheme 2025
The University of Kashmir has issued an official notification inviting online applications for three Ph.D. positions under the prestigious Visvesvaraya Ph.D. Scheme, funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. The scheme aims to strengthen research in emerging fields such as Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) and Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES).
Among the available positions, two are full-time and one is part-time, offering a valuable opportunity for motivated scholars to pursue advanced research in Electronics and Information Technology.
Fellowship Structure and Benefits
The Visvesvaraya Scheme offers one of the most attractive research fellowships in India. Selected scholars will receive:
Monthly Fellowship
- ₹38,750 per month (1st & 2nd year)
- ₹43,750 per month (3rd year onwards)
Additional Benefits
- 16% House Rent Allowance (HRA) under Class Y category
- ₹1,20,000 per year Research Contingency Grant
- Support for International Conferences
- Fellowship duration: Up to 5 years or completion of Ph.D., whichever comes first
These benefits ensure scholars have strong academic and financial support throughout their doctoral journey.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have a Master’s degree in Science, Engineering, or Technology with specialization in:
- Electronics
- Computer Science
- Information Technology
Candidates already enrolled in a Ph.D. programme at the University of Kashmir are not eligible for this scheme.

- Entrance Test (Tentative): December 11, 2025
The entrance test syllabus is available on the university’s official portal. Candidates can select either Electronics or Computer/IT as their test theme.
Admission Procedure
Selection will be based on a written entrance examination conducted by the University of Kashmir. No TA/DA will be provided for appearing in the interview or while joining the position. The fellowship will follow MeitY guidelines, while the Ph.D. programme will be governed by the UGC and University of Kashmir regulations.
