SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday informed the Legislative Assembly that it has no plans to provide a stipend to unemployed youth in the Union Territory.

In a written response to a question by MLA Samba, Devinder Kumar Manyal, the Minister in charge of Labour & Employment, Surinder Choudhary, said that there is no proposal to offer financial assistance to unemployed individuals in JK.
“Currently, there is no such plan to provide a stipend to unemployed youth in the UT of JK,” the minister said.
The minister further disclosed that 3,70,811 unemployed youth are registered with the government. Of these, 2,13,007 are registered in Kashmir Valley, while 1,57,804 are in Jammu.
Listing measures to address unemployment, the minister said that all government departments refer vacant posts to the Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission and the Services Selection Board after completing the necessary formalities.
“The Employment Department regularly conducts career counselling sessions to help unemployed youth explore career opportunities in various fields,” he added. (KNO)
