In an advisory shared on X (formerly Twitter), the department warned residents and travelers:

“Cold wave conditions are expected across many areas for the next three days. Due to fresh snowfall, sub-freezing temperatures, and icy road conditions in higher reaches and key passes, tourists, travelers, and transporters are advised to follow administrative and traffic advisories.”

Residents are urged to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the plunging temperatures, especially in higher altitudes where road conditions remain icy and hazardous.

  • Pahalgam: Reported a low of -8.4°C.

These frigid conditions are expected to persist, adding to the winter chill.

Travelers and tourists visiting higher reaches or planning road trips through key passes are advised to:

  1. Check for updates from local traffic authorities.
  2. Carry essential winter gear, including chains for vehicle tires.
  3. Avoid unnecessary travel during peak frost hours.
