The application deadline is September 1, 2025 and it is important to note that any applications received on or after September 2 will not be accepted. The scholarship offers funding for undergraduate, master’s, or PhD programmes across a wide range of disciplines including engineering, natural sciences, humanities, social sciences, technology, and others.
To be eligible, applicants must hold a nationality other than Japanese and must be eligible to enter Japan on a student visa. They must have completed the relevant academic qualifications such as a high school diploma for undergraduate studies, a bachelor’s degree for master’s programmes, or a master’s degree for PhD programmes. In addition to a strong academic record, applicants should demonstrate the ability or potential to conduct research. Proficiency in either English (such as through TOEFL or IELTS) or Japanese (such as through JLPT) is required. Furthermore, applicants must meet the health standards ensuring they are physically and mentally fit to study and reside in Japan.
Applicants are required to submit a completed and accurate personal and academic application form. Certified transcripts from the most recent and previous academic institutions showing grades and coursework must be provided, along with copies of graduation certificates or diplomas for the highest level of education attained. A well-structured statement outlining academic goals, research interests, and the reason for applying must also be included. Additionally, two academic or professional references from professors or supervisors are required. Proof of language proficiency, a valid passport copy, and a medical certificate signed and stamped by a licensed physician are also part of the documentation process.
