The Act, passed earlier this year, aims to curb financial and social risks associated with online gambling and betting platforms. Once implemented, it will render all online games involving real money transactions illegal across the country.
According to the minister, the legislation is designed to protect citizens, particularly the youth, from financial exploitation and addiction caused by unregulated digital gaming. He stressed that the government would ensure strict compliance and that violators could face heavy penalties.
The law provides for criminal and financial consequences for operators found running online money games after the deadline, while enforcement agencies have been directed to begin preparations for monitoring digital platforms.
The move comes amid rising concerns about the surge in online betting and gambling apps, which officials say have led to mounting cases of debt, fraud and mental health issues.
