Srinagar, Jan 2: The Meteorological Department of Jammu and Kashmir has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for January 5 and January 6, forecasting heavy rain and snowfall at isolated locations during this period.

On January 3, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy with chances of light snow at isolated higher elevations.

From January 4 to 6, a moderate to strong Western Disturbance is anticipated. According to Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Department, the following conditions are expected under its influence:

  • Plains of Jammu: Light to moderate rainfall.
  • Most Areas of J&K: Snowfall, with heavy snow likely at higher reaches.
  • Peak Activity: The peak impact is forecasted from the night of January 4 to late night January 5, continuing into the morning of January 6. Conditions are expected to improve by the afternoon of January 6.

From January 7 to 10, generally cloudy and dry weather is predicted. However, from January 11 to 12, there is a possibility of light snow at isolated places under cloudy conditions.
