How To Make a Paper Airplane Easy and Fast
Paper airplanes are fun crafts that you can easily do at home with a simple sheet of paper. There are many styles of airplane, which you can try and see how far it can fly. Some of the more advanced designs help your plane stay in the air longer and fly farther. Just take a piece of paper and you’re ready to make your own airplane with a few folds!
How do you make a easy paper airplane?
1
Folding a Classic Paper Airplane
1
Fold a sheet of letter size paper in half lengthwise. Take a sheet of printer paper that is rectangular in shape and place it on a flat surface. Fold it in half lengthwise, so that the paper looks like a long rectangle. Crease the fold with your fingernail before unfolding the paper back.[1]
If you want to make colored paper planes, use construction paper or cardboard instead.
2
Bring the top corners to the center crease. When the paper is flat again, take one of the top corners and fold it to the crease you just made to make a triangle. Press along the fold with your fingernail to keep the fold in place. Repeat this fold on the other top corner, so that your paper forms a point.[2]
Be sure to keep the crease point facing you as you fold your paper airplane, or you’ll end up folding a wrong corner.
3
Fold the angled or diagonal edge back to the crease. Take the new top corner from one side of your paper and fold it to the crease to make a long triangle. Drive your fingernail along the fold to secure the fold in place. Fold the other top corner in the same way so that your paper looks like a large triangle.[3]
Tip: If pressing the fold with your finger doesn’t work, try using a ruler or credit card to press the fold down.
4
Fold the paper along the middle crease. Use the first crease you made as a guide for your next fold. Fold the airplane in half along the crease, so that the triangles you made face in. Drive your fingernail along the crease to keep the fold in place. [4]
This fold forms the bottom of your plane, which will make it easier for you to hold and fly the plane once it’s built.
5
Crease the angled side toward the center to create wings. Bring the slanted side of the paper you just made to the middle. Crease the paper with your knuckle or fingernail. Flip the paper airplane upside down to make the wing on the other side. When the creases on both sides are created, slightly unfold them so that the plane is flat at the top. [5]
Make sure the wings are even or symmetrical so that it stays level when you throw your plane.

Making an Advanced Plane
1
Fold an 8 1/2 inch × 11 inch (22 cm × 28 cm) piece of paper in half lengthwise. You can use printed or kraft paper to make your paper plane. Place the paper on a flat surface and fold it in half lengthwise to make a long rectangle. Press the folded line firmly with your fingernail before opening the paper back.[6]
Try using other types of paper to add designs and see how it works on your plane.
2
Bring the top corner to the middle crease. Grab one of the top corners and fold it into a triangle, so that the edges line up with the crease. Flatten the fold with the tip of your finger or fingernail so that it stays in place. Repeat your fold at the other top corner, so that you have a point at the top of the paper. [7]
Make sure the sharp corners are facing you when you begin to fold your paper, or the folds won’t line up.
3
Fold the top point down so that there is about 1⁄2 inch (1.3 cm) left at the bottom. Take the top point of your paper and fold it over to hide the triangle you just made. Keep bringing the point down until it is 1⁄2 inch (1.3 cm) from the bottom of the sheet. Run your knuckle over the fold to keep the fold in place. Your piece of paper should look like an envelope. [8]
Don’t let the point touch the bottom edge of the paper, or it will affect the structure of your plane once it’s ready.
4
Bring the corners to the center. Take one of the corners you just created at the top of the paper. Fold the corner up so that the edges line up with the middle crease. Secure the fold by running your fingernail or knuckle over the fold. Repeat the fold on the other side, so that there are now 2 triangles. [9]
If you want to have an edge on your airplane instead of a point in front, fold the top of your paper so that only the corners touch the middle crease.
5
Keep holding your folds to fold the bottom two points over the folds. Crease the closest point at the bottom of your plane so that it covers 2 right angles with the center of your paper. Make sure the folds keep the triangle in place. [10]
After this is done, fold your paper like a large triangle on top of a narrow rectangle.
