Jammu and Kashmir Heatwave: Srinagar Records 32°C, Jammu Scorches at 41.4°C”: SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir continues to face intense heat as several areas recorded the season’s highest temperatures on Wednesday. Jammu touched 41.4 degrees Celsius, while Srinagar recorded 32.0 degrees Celsius. Qazigund also saw a rise, reaching 33.2 degrees Celsius.

Other areas also experienced intense heat. Pahalgam recorded 25.8 degrees Celsius, Kupwara 30.0, Kokernag 31.5, and Gulmarg—a ski resort—23.2 degrees Celsius.
In the Jammu division, Banihal recorded 30.4 degrees Celsius, Batote 30.1, Katra 36.8, and Bhaderwah 31.3 degrees Celsius.
Director of the Meteorological Department, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, said that a further rise of 1 to 2 degrees Celsius in maximum temperature is expected, with the possibility of a heatwave at scattered places in Kashmir division until May 23.
He said hot and dry weather is expected generally, with a brief spell of light rain possible at isolated places, mainly in the late afternoon, till May 26.From May 27 to 31, the weather is likely to remain generally hot and dry, with chances of light rain or thundershowers at scattered places.
Meanwhile, the MeT department, in its advisory, said that maximum temperatures are expected to rise by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius, with a heatwave possible at scattered places in Kashmir division until May 23, followed by a drop of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.
The advisory also noted a possible rise of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in maximum temperature over the Jammu division until May 26, with heatwave conditions likely.
“Possibility of thunder and gusty winds at isolated places towards late afternoon cannot be ruled out,” the advisory stated. (KNO)
