J&K Govt Appoints 365 Medical Officers to Boost Healthcare: Minister

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Health Minister on Monday said that 365 doctors were appointed as medical officers in the Health and Family Welfare Department in November last year and were posted in far-flung areas to strengthen healthcare facilities at the grassroots level.

In a written reply to MLA Shakti Parihar’s question, the Health Minister, said that vacancies arising due to retirement or promotion would be referred to recruiting agencies to ensure maximum staff allocation as per the sanctioned strength.

She said that in relation to vacant medical officer posts, 365 selectees were appointed as medical officers in the JK Health & Family Welfare (Gazetted) Services in November last year.

“These medical officers have been posted in far-flung and peripheral health institutes across JK to strengthen healthcare facilities at the grassroots level,” she said.

She added that the department is also in the process of operating a waitlist of 91 selected medical officers, whose services will be utilised in underserved areas across JK.

“Additionally, 181 medical officer posts are yet to be received from the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission. Upon receiving the selections, the doctors will be posted in health institutions facing staff shortages,” the minister noted. (KNO)
