“Kashmir Heatwave Intensifies: Srinagar Records 33.3°C After Eid” : SRINAGAR: Srinagar recorded a scorching 33.3°C today, 5.3°C above normal, as a severe post-Eid heatwave swept across the Valley, triggering unease among residents and concern among health officials.
According to data compiled by Kashmir Weather, the summer capital was among several places experiencing unusually high temperatures for early June. In south Kashmir, Qazigund was the hottest, touching 33.6°C — a staggering 6.8°C above the seasonal average. Pahalgam, usually a summer retreat, recorded 28.7°C, which is 4.8°C above normal. Kupwara followed at 32.5°C, Kokernag at 30.8°C, and even hill station Gulmarg saw an abnormal 23.0°C — 4.3°C above normal.
“This is an intense and widespread heat spell,” said Faizan Arif of Kashmir Weather. “Such deviations are increasingly being seen in Kashmir’s summer patterns, and people must take it seriously.”
In the Jammu region, Jammu city scorched at 44.3°C — 4.7°C above normal — while Katra registered 40.2°C. Batote and Banihal recorded 33.6°C and 32.8°C respectively, while Bhaderwah stood at 33.0°C.
Ladakh, too, saw unseasonal warmth, with Leh touching 26.9°C and Kargil 27.9°C — both unusually high for the high-altitude desert.
The spike in temperatures comes just days after Eid-ul-Adha, and residents have been struggling with the sudden heat. Health officials have urged the public to stay indoors during peak hours, remain hydrated, and avoid strenuous activity outdoors. Vulnerable groups — including children, the elderly, and outdoor workers — are particularly at risk.
With no immediate respite in sight, Kashmiris are being urged to brace for continued high temperatures in the coming days. The local administration may issue advisories if the situation persists.kashmir life .
