Reports from Palakkad said that 26-year-old Muhammed Shanib, a resident of Kanjirapuzha in the Kanhirapuzha grama panchayat, had been missing for several days before his family received confirmation on Tuesday morning that his body had been located in a wooded area near Gulmarg.

According to family members quoted in The New Indian Express, a police officer from Gulmarg contacted them at around 7.30 am on Tuesday and informed them that Shanib’s body bore injuries consistent with a wild animal attack. The officer told the family that the body had been recovered from dense woods and that they had been asked to travel to Kashmir for identification.

Shanib had been working in Bengaluru as an accountant and had returned home briefly on April 5. He left again on April 13, reportedly to resume work. His family last heard from him via brief text messages, and said they had no knowledge of any travel plans to Kashmir. “We are shocked to know that he reached Kashmir. He didn’t know anyone there,” his uncle Abdul Salam told the newspaper.

Relatives said Shanib had experienced mental health challenges in the past, particularly after a failed attempt to gain admission to medical school. He had since worked intermittently as an electrician in the village before moving to Bengaluru a few months ago. His sister also lives in the city.Officials at Gulmarg police station told The New Indian Express that Shanib’s body appeared to be several days old and was currently being kept at a military hospital. Police said they were still trying to piece together how he arrived in the forested area. Cybercell officials had reportedly examined his phone records, which showed the last known activity from Delhi. There were no outgoing calls or messages after that.

Family members said the Kashmir police indicated that a mentally stable person would not ordinarily enter such terrain alone, given its isolation and ruggedness. Shanib had reportedly left no traceable explanation of his movements in the days leading to his death.

The family has approached the office of the Chief Minister of Kerala through local MLA K Shanthakumari, seeking assistance in repatriating his body. Further investigation is underway.kashmir Life.
