“Pakistan Super League 2024 Shaheen Shah Afridi Makes History as Fastest Bowler to Reach 100 Wickets”
Pakistan’s renowned pacer and T20I team captain, Shaheen Shah Afridi, etched his name in history on Wednesday (March 6) as he became the third bowler ever to achieve the remarkable feat of taking 100 wickets in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The 23-year-old left-arm sensation achieved this milestone during Lahore Qalandars’ eighth match of the ongoing PSL 2024 season against Islamabad United at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Afridi, who debuted in the PSL in 2018 and exclusively played for Lahore Qalandars, showcased his dominance by reaching the 100-wicket mark in just 69 matches, making him the fastest bowler in the tournament’s history to achieve this remarkable feat.
Prior to Afridi, only Wahab Riaz and Hasan Ali had achieved the 100-wicket milestone in the PSL. Wahab, now the chief selector of Pakistan’s men’s cricket team, accomplished 113 dismissals in 88 matches for Peshawar Zalmi, while Hasan secured 107 wickets in 79 PSL matches.
Afridi’s exceptional performance, with figures of 2 for 32 in four overs, combined with Zaman Khan’s impressive 4 for 37 in 3.5 overs, contributed to Qalandars’ victory over United by 17 runs in the PSL 2024.
Beyond his bowling prowess, Shaheen showcased his batting skills by promoting himself to No. 5 in the order during the match. In his 14-ball innings, the left-handed batsman notched up 30 runs with the help of four sixes.
Despite the triumph, Lahore Qalandars remain at the bottom of the points table in PSL 2024, with three points from eight matches, making their qualification for the knockout stage an uphill battle.
