Srinagar: Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone has strongly criticized the Jammu and Kashmir government’s response to a petition challenging its reservation policy, calling it dismissive and lacking transparency.
Taking to social media platform X, Lone expressed concern over the government’s affidavit filed in the High Court in the case of Zahoor Ahmed Bhat and Others vs UT of J&K. According to him, the government has labeled the petition as “frivolous” and has sought its outright dismissal.
“What’s more concerning,” Lone added, “is that the government did not inform the High Court about the formation of a cabinet subcommittee on reservations.”
He questioned the seriousness of the administration, stating, “It’s a legal mystery how the existence of a government-appointed subcommittee was completely omitted from the affidavit. It appears the government itself doesn’t value its own panel enough to mention it in a legal document.”
Lone’s remarks have sparked fresh political debate on the handling of reservation issues in the Union Territory.
