SKUAST Kashmir Bew Recruitment 2024 ₹58,000 Salary-SKUAST Kashmir Launches Groundbreaking Research Project to Enhance Nutritional Content of Hydroponically Grown Crops
The Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) in Kashmir has initiated a cutting-edge research project focusing on elevating the nutritional value of hydroponically cultivated tomatoes and lettuce. Entitled “Biofortification of Hydroponically Grown Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) and Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) with Thiamine and Zinc Alone or in Combination and Their Validation in Animal Counterpart,” this three-year venture is financially supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology, DST New Delhi.
In a bid to address nutritional deficiencies, researchers at SKUAST Kashmir will employ hydroponics, a soilless cultivation method, concentrating on fortifying tomatoes and lettuce with thiamine (Vitamin B1) and zinc. Thiamine plays a pivotal role in energy metabolism, while zinc is essential for various physiological functions, including immune system support.
The primary objective is to develop crops with enhanced nutritional content, contributing to a healthier and more balanced diet for consumers. This research not only tackles nutritional concerns but aligns with broader agricultural innovations.
As part of this pioneering initiative, the university invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Research Associate-I, a role co-terminus with the project. Applicants should submit detailed biodata and qualification certificates either in person to the designated authority’s office chamber or via email to [email protected]. The application deadline is 28th January 2024.
Shortlisted candidates meeting the eligibility criteria will receive interview details through email or contact number, ensuring a meticulous selection process to assemble a skilled and dedicated research team.
Beyond academic realms, this research holds real-world significance by addressing challenges related to food security and nutrition. As SKUAST Kashmir endeavors to biofortify hydroponically grown crops, the outcomes have the potential to substantially contribute to community well-being and the broader agricultural landscape. Stay tuned for updates on this innovative venture as SKUAST Kashmir leads the way toward a more nourished and sustainable future.
