However, more than 50 flights were cancelled during this period.
Earlier, flight operations and footfall had declined following the deadly Pahalgam incident in which at least 27 people, mostly tourists, were killed, leading to widespread disruption. Flights have now resumed, and operations are gradually stabilising.
“Airport operations are running smoothly, with both arrivals and departures taking place without any disturbance. Hajj movements are also progressing as scheduled,” an official said.
The busiest day during this period was May 17, with 7,841 passengers and 50 scheduled flights. However, 21 of those flights were cancelled for unspecified reasons. The lowest movement was recorded on May 18, with 4,915 passengers and nine cancellations. On May 15, the airport facilitated the departure of 641 Hajj pilgrims along with regular flights, bringing the day’s total to 6,844 passengers.
“Passengers have been cooperative, and airlines have adjusted schedules where possible. We are working closely with all stakeholders to ensure minimal disruption,” the official added.
It is pertinent to mention that this increase in airport activity follows the tragic Pahalgam terror attack, which caused temporary disruptions across the Valley, including a decline in tourist arrivals and travel cancellations. (KNO)
