Yellow Alert: MeT Predicts Rain, Gusty Winds in Jammu Kashmir Till May 12

SRINAGAR: Amidst the two-day yellow alert, Jammu and Kashmir parts, especially the southern areas and Srinagar—the summer capital of the region—received heavy rainfall on Friday afternoon.

Reports of heavy rainfall were received from Shopian, Kulgam, Anantnag in South Kashmir, and some parts of the northern region including Srinagar.

Notably, the weatherman here has issued a ‘yellow alert’ till May 10, predicting brief spells of light rain, thundershowers and gusty winds at scattered to fairly widespread places across Jammu and Kashmir.

Director Meteorological Department (MeT), Mukhtar Ahmad, said that partly to generally cloudy skies with spells of light to moderate rain, thundershowers and gusty winds are expected at scattered to fairly widespread places.

The MeT Director has further predicted the possibility of brief spells of light rain and thundershowers at isolated places on May 12, adding that there is a forecast of generally dry weather conditions from May 13 to May 17.

Meanwhile, in its advisory, the MeT has advised people to follow administration and traffic advisories. People have also been advised to avoid boating and shikara riding in Dal Lake, Wular Lake and other water bodies during inclement weather and gusty winds.

According to the advisory, the MeT has forecast that intense showers at a few vulnerable places may lead to landslides and mudslides. The MeT also said there is a forecast of a significant rise in day temperatures from the May 13 onwards, mainly in the Jammu division. (KNO)
