Additionally, 6.85 lakh consumer smart meters will be installed in unmetered flat-rate areas and regions with conventional meters in the Kashmir Division over the next 27 months.

In a press release, a KPDCL spokesperson said that DT and feeder metering will enable real-time monitoring of the electrical system, ensuring reliable power supply through remote load and voltage unbalancing monitoring. “Feeder meters will improve load forecasting and provide digital information about the duration and interruptions in electricity supply,” he added.

Currently, 340 feeders are integrated with the National Feeder Monitoring System (NFMS), with the rest to be covered under RDSS.

Kashmir DISCOM is set to install 6.85 lakh smart meters in flat-rate areas and regions with conventional or non-communicating meters. This will allow digital monitoring of consumption and daily billing for consumers, helping reduce their bills. “All these smart meters will be prepaid-enabled, providing accurate real-time consumption details, and ensuring uninterrupted and quality power supply,” the spokesperson said. Consumers will be able to check their energy consumption on their mobile phones.
