“The crackdown, part of a concerted effort to curb terrorist activities and dismantle their networks, unfolded at the premises of various suspects at different locations across the district,” a police spokesman said.

In connection with the investigation of a case under FIR number 04/2024 registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) at Police Station Bandipora, three individuals were arrested: Nazir Ahmad Ahangar, son of Late Abdul Khaliq Ahangar of Shahgund Hajin; Sheikh Danish Mushtaq, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh of Aloosa Bandipora; and Tahir Ahmad Mir, son of Late Habibullah Mir of Ward 2 Plan Bandipora. All three are said to be members of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu & Kashmir.

In another case under FIR numbers 07 and 62/2024, registered under the UAPA at Police Station Sumbal, three more individuals were arrested: Ghulam Din War, son of Habib Ullah War of Naidkhai, a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP); and Khursheed Ahmad Lone, son of Mohammad Jamal Lone of Naidkhai, along with Mohammad Shafi Dar, son of Sonaullah Dar of Karnai Mohalla Shahgund—both affiliated with the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League (JKPL).

Additionally, two persons were arrested in connection with FIR number 06/2024 under the UAPA at Police Station Hajin. They were identified as Ab Majeed Gojri, son of Gh Mohammad Gojri, and Ab Majeed Lone, son of Mohammad Maqbool Lone—both residents of Vigpara Hajin and members of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat JK.

According to the police, objectionable material, pamphlets and electronic devices including mobile phones were seized from the arrested individuals. The investigations have revealed that these members continued to promote terrorist and secessionist activities in Jammu & Kashmir even after the outfits they were affiliated with had been banned under the UAPA.

The statement further noted that the arrested persons were engaged in motivating impressionable youth and recruiting new members (Rukuns) to further their nefarious and separatist agenda.

“These arrests serve as a stark reminder of the police’s ongoing crackdown against extremism and the imperative of collective vigilance in J&K. Bandipora Police remain committed to maintaining peace and security in the district. Any individual found furthering the agenda of violence, disruption, or unlawful activities will face strict legal consequences. Persons promoting secessionist or separatist ideology will also face strict legal action as warranted under the law,” the statement reads. (KNO)
