In response to a query by MLA Pattan, Javid Reyaz, the government said a high school can only be upgraded if it meets two key requirements—maintaining a minimum distance of 7 km from an existing higher secondary school and having at least 35 students enrolled in the highest class.

The government ruled out the upgradation of Girls High School Pattan and High School Singhpora Pattan to the higher secondary level, citing non-fulfilment of the prescribed norms.

Girls High School Pattan has 58 students in Class 10 but is only 0.5 km from HSS Pattan, making it ineligible for upgradation. Similarly, High School Singhpora Pattan, with 53 students in Class 10, is located just 3.5 km from HSS Gund Khawaja Qasim, failing to meet the required distance norm. (KNO)
