47 Death Claims Settled Under J&K Road Accident Victim Fund Rules

SRINAGAR: The Jammu district administration has disbursed over Rs 50 lakh as compensation to the legal heirs of road accident victims and injured persons under the JK Road Accident Victim Fund Rules, 2022.

According to officials, a total of Rs 50.50 lakh has been transferred directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts in the last three months. The relief was provided in coordination with the Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Regional Transport Officer Jammu, Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Jammu, and Chief Medical Officer Jammu.

The compensation includes Rs 47 lakh disbursed in 47 death cases, with each legal heir receiving Rs 1 lakh. Ten injured persons were also compensated based on the severity of injuries, Rs 75,000 for severe, Rs 50,000 for moderate, and Rs 10,000 for minor injuries.

Authorities said 12 more death cases and 5 injury cases are currently under process and compensation is expected to be released soon.

The Deputy Commissioner Jammu welcomed the progress and highlighted the cooperation among departments. The Transport Commissioner JK was also acknowledged for timely provisioning of funds, enabling swift financial support to victims and their families.
