According to the ACB, the chargesheet has been filed under Section 173 Cr.P.C. in FIR No. 15/2022, naming Jamil Hussain Khan, the then Patwari Halqa of Baghat-e-Shoor, Owanta Bhawan, Soura, Tehsil Eidgah, and Shafat-ur-Rehman Bhat, a retired Patwari.

Jamil Hussain Khan has been charged under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) and Section 120-B IPC (criminal conspiracy). Shafat-ur-Rehman Bhat faces charges under Section 12 of the same Act and Section 120-B IPC.

The case originated from a complaint alleging that Jamil Hussain, through his associate Shafat-ur-Rehman Bhat, demanded a bribe of Rs 9,000 for processing revenue documents related to land records. Following verification of the complaint, a trap was laid on April 11, 2022, during which the tainted bribe amount was recovered from the accused.

The investigation concluded with sufficient evidence establishing the charges, and government sanction was obtained for prosecution. Subsequently, the chargesheet was presented to the Anti-Corruption Court in Srinagar today for judicial proceedings.

Significantly, Shafat-ur-Rehman Bhat was earlier convicted in a separate corruption case registered against him in 2009, further underscoring a pattern of misconduct.

The case is now listed for its next hearing on August 13, 2025.kashmir life
