SRINAGAR: Apni Party, led by former minister Syed Altaf Bukhari, announced on Monday its support for independent candidate and former minister Taj Mohi-ud-Din from the Uri constituency in the upcoming assembly elections.
Bukhari confirmed the decision during a press conference and said the party is identifying constituencies where it will support independent candidates for the public’s wellbeing.
“We are, and will be, consolidating with independent candidates wherever necessary for public wellbeing,” Bukhari said.
In response to a question about Mehbooba Mufti’s comments calling some parties proxies of the BJP, Bukhari said, “Mehbooba Mufti has been changing her statements like the weather.” He added that Apni Party does not want to make elections “tasteless” by engaging in statements against other parties. “We don’t want to discuss A, B, or C teams here. If we discuss this, then NC and PDP would be in A+, and we would come in the category of A-,” he said
