Cold Wave Grips Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh: Anantnag and Kargil Record Lowest Temperatures
The Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh regions are reeling under an intense cold wave, with several areas registering sub-zero temperatures. The freezing conditions have disrupted daily life and left residents battling extreme weather.

Kashmir Valley:
Anantnag and Shopian emerged as the coldest locations in the region, both recording a chilling -8.9°C, closely followed by Larnoo at -8.8°C and Pulwama at -8.5°C. Sonamarg also witnessed a severe drop, recording -7.7°C, while Khudwani stood at -7.1°C.
Popular tourist destinations were no exception to the cold wave, with Pahalgam at -6.8°C and Gulmarg at -4.0°C. Meanwhile, Srinagar, the summer capital, recorded a low of -5.3°C.

Jammu Region:
The Jammu region, though relatively milder, experienced freezing or near-freezing temperatures in many areas. Padder (Kishtwar) was the coldest at -8.3°C, followed by Banihal at -3.4°C. Udhampur and Bhaderwah recorded -0.5°C and -0.8°C, respectively. Cities like Jammu and Katra remained comparatively warmer at 4.9°C and 6.7°C.

In Ladakh, temperatures dropped to extreme levels, with Kargil recording a freezing -12.5°C, making it the coldest in the region. Leh also witnessed severe cold at -8.8°C, while data for Drass, known as one of the coldest inhabited places in India, remained unavailable.
