SRINAGAR: The School Education Department has taken serious note of complaints regarding the alleged prescription of textbooks by private schools in violation of departmental norms.

Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), GN Itoo, said this after holding a series of meetings with private school heads, parents, and department officials.

Itoo emphasised that private schools must strictly adhere to the department’s rules and regulations concerning textbook prescriptions. He also directed all private schools to upload details of their prescribed textbooks on their official websites within three days.

This action follows complaints from various sources about private schools prescribing textbooks that deviate from the approved norms and charging tuition fees beyond the limits set by the Fee Fixation and Regulation Committee (FFRC).

To address these concerns, DSEK convened meetings with private school representatives and parents. During these meetings, GN Itoo instructed private schools to comply with the existing guidelines and ensure that fees are charged in accordance with FFRC approvals.

To ensure effective implementation of these directives, Director Education also held a meeting with senior department officials. District-wise monitoring committees were constituted to oversee adherence to the guidelines.

The meeting was attended by Joint Director of Elementary Education Mohammad Mushtaq, Chief Education Officer Srinagar Shabina Kyser, and other department officials.

DSEK directed all Chief Education Officers in the Kashmir Division to strictly enforce the rules and regulations. They were also instructed to receive daily reports from the monitoring committees to ensure compliance.
