Fresh Snowfall in Higher Reaches of Kashmir, Light Rains in Plains
Higher reaches of Kashmir received fresh snowfall, while light rain lashed the plains in parts of north Kashmir on Wednesday. The Meteorological Department (MeT) has forecasted that the prevailing weather conditions will continue until February 4.
Snowfall in Popular Tourist Destinations
Ski resort Gulmarg, Gurez, Machil, Tangdar, Sonamarg, Peer Ki Gali, Sinthan Top, and Lolab Valley received light snowfall, attracting scores of tourists.
Weather Forecast
According to Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Indian Meteorological Centre Kashmir, light rain and snowfall are expected over higher reaches of Kupwara, Budgam, Baramulla, Bandipora, Ganderbal, and Shopian till February 4. He also predicted a rise in minimum temperatures by 2-4°C across several places by February 5.
Dry Chillai Kalan Ends with Minimal Snowfall
The 40-day harsh winter period, Chillai Kalan, ended with minimal snowfall, marking one of the driest winters in recent history. The Valley saw an 80% rainfall deficit in December, leading to freezing nights and warmer-than-usual days, with Srinagar recording temperatures 4-5°C above normal.

- Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH-44) is open for two-way traffic today, subject to weather and road conditions.
