Gulmarg and Higher Reaches in Kashmir Witness Season’s First Snowfall
Srinagar: The picturesque tourist destination of Gulmarg, renowned for its skiing slopes, experienced the season’s first snowfall on Saturday, creating a winter wonderland in the Kashmir valley. The snowfall, which began early in the morning, intermittently continued, covering the region’s meadows with a blanket of snow approximately an inch thick, according to officials.
In addition to Gulmarg, several other areas in the higher reaches of Kashmir also witnessed fresh snowfall, including Gurez (Bandipora district), Machil (Kupwara district), Mughal Road (Shopian district), and other high-altitude locations.

While the upper regions were adorned with snow, the plains, including the summer capital Srinagar, experienced rainfall, adding to the chilly weather.
The meteorological department has issued the following forecast: Weather is expected to improve by Saturday afternoon. From November 17 to November 23, the weather will remain dry and stable across the valley. On November 24, light rain or snowfall is expected in isolated higher-altitude regions. This improvement in weather is likely to favor tourists and locals, particularly those visiting popular destinations like Gulmarg.
The fresh snowfall is expected to attract ski enthusiasts and travelers to the region, marking the beginning of the winter tourism season in Kashmir. Gulmarg, known as the crown jewel of Kashmir tourism, has already begun to receive visitors eager to experience its snow-covered slopes.
With snowfall gracing the higher reaches and rain refreshing the plains, Kashmir is stepping into its serene winter charm, offering a unique experience for locals and tourists alike.
