J&K Haj Pilgrims to Depart for Hajj 2023 in Early June
The Jammu & Kashmir Hajj pilgrims for 2023 are expected to depart for Saudi Arabia in the first week of June, according to the Executive Officer of the J&K Haj Committee, Abdul Salam Mir. The exact departure dates have not been finalized yet, but Mir assures that they will be announced shortly. Around 10,000 individuals from Jammu and Kashmir have been selected to perform the pilgrimage of Hajj this year.
In total, 14,271 applications were received, and for the first time, 132 female applicants without Mahram were selected.
Additionally, 1,320 individuals who are above 70 years of age have also been selected under the Reserved Category. It is noteworthy that Saudi Arabia had barred intending pilgrims above 70 years of age due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021.
However, the Saudi government recently announced that pilgrims above 70 years of age will be given priority, and female pilgrims without Mahram will also be allowed to perform the holy pilgrimage of Hajj for the first time.
