SRINAGAR: A leopard attack in the Shamsabad, Khansahib area of Budgam district left farmer Mohammad Ramzan Bhat with heavy financial losses, as the predator killed 16 sheep from his flock.
Bhat narrowly escaped injury when he attempted to protect his livestock, but the leopard retreated after the attack. Local residents expressed sympathy for the farmer, highlighting the devastating financial impact of the incident and calling on authorities to provide immediate compensation.
“This is a major setback for the farmer,” a local resident said, urging the wildlife department to intervene.
The community has voiced growing concerns over recurring wildlife attacks, stressing the need for the leopard to be captured to prevent future tragedies. “We fear for our safety as this is not the first incident,” a local told Kashmir News Trust.
Authorities have yet to comment on any action plans regarding the leopard. (KNT)
