SRINAGAR: The recent suicide incident by a youth, Faid Fayaz, who jumped from Qamarwari Bridge into the river Jhelum, has heightened community concerns, thereby demanding immediate actions including the proper fencing of the vulnerable bridges across Srinagar.

Faid Fayaz, a resident of Bemina Srinagar, jumped into the river Jhelum last evening, prompting a swift response from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), which conducted a rescue operation to retrieve his body from the river.
“This incident underscores the urgent need for improved safety protocols on bridges like Qamarwari,” said Mohammad Nadeem, a local resident from Qamarwari. He added that fencing and other preventive measures are essential to deter tragic occurrences.
With yesterday’s incident, this is the second such incident in the past one month.
Meanwhile, ASI SDRF Abdul Rashid said that the SDRF is conducting the operation to retrieve the body from last night, as the operation was on till 1 AM late at night and resumed this morning. “We are scanning the water thoroughly and as of now, no traces of the body have been found,” he said.(KNO)
