The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made significant changes to the leadership of the national cricket team. Mohammad Rizwan has been appointed as the captain for the ODI and T20 formats, succeeding Babar Azam. This decision comes after a series of disappointing performances in recent ICC tournaments, including the T20 World Cup 2024, where Pakistan failed to advance past the group stage.

Key Changes in Leadership

  • Captain: Mohammad Rizwan will lead the team during the upcoming tour of Australia, which includes three ODIs and three T20Is from November 4 to November 18, 2024.
  • Vice-Captain: Salman Ali Agha has been appointed as the vice-captain. He will also take charge during the T20 series in Zimbabwe, where Rizwan will not participate.

Team Composition

The squad for the Australia tour includes notable players returning to the team:

  • ODI Squad: Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan (WK), Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, among others.
  • T20I Squad: Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan (WK), Shaheen Shah Afridi, and several emerging talents.

However, Babar, Afridi and Naseem will be rested for the three ODIs and three T20s in Zimbabwe with the selectors picking several top performers from domestic white-ball cricket
