m Passport Seva: Passport is an essential document mostly used for travel, but it is also a useful document for identification. People from India often travel abroad for various reasons like education, pilgrimage, tourism, business purposes, medical and family visits etc. In such a situation, the requirement of passport becomes important for all these people. Now on the other hand, if you have applied for a passport, but it has not reached home even after the deadline, then you must use some of the methods mentioned below. Over the past few decades, the demand for passports and related services has increased due to the increase in the number of people traveling abroad from India. But while the demand for passports has increased, most people are still unaware of how to apply for a passport. To meet this increased demand, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) launched the Passport Seva Project (PSP) in May 2010.

Due to the passport service, the work of these documents was expedited. Through this, delivery of passport and related services to people’s homes could be expedited. Simple, efficient and transparent process has been ensured due to this. The project created a countrywide network environment for government employees and linked India Post for delivery of passports as well as coordination with state police for verification of applicant’s credentials.
How to apply for passport online
You can apply for your passport through e-form submission. For that a person has:
To apply for fresh or re-issue of passport through e-prom submission, users need to register on the Passport Seva Portal.
After registering, you will have to login to the Passport Seva Portal.
Download e-Form for Fresh or Re-Issue of Passport.
Fill the downloaded e-form and click on the validate and save button. This will generate an XML file which will be required to be uploaded in the system later.
Upload the XML file through the upload e-form. Do not upload PDF form at this stage as only XML file is accepted by the system.
After uploading the form for fresh or re-issue of passport, click on the link ‘Pay and schedule appointment’ to schedule an appointment at the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK).
Find Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) Location and select your PSK.
After booking an appointment at the selected PSK, you can make the online payment through Credit/Debit Card (MasterCard and Visa), Internet Banking (State Bank of India (SBI) and associate banks only) or SBI Bank Challan.

Take a print out of the application receipt containing the Application Reference Number (ARN) or Appointment Number.
Visit the Passport Seva Kendra whenever you have got the date. Do not forget to take the documents along with you. Such as proof of date of birth, proof of identity with photo, proof of residence and proof of nationality.

Tatkal Passport Seva (Tatkaal Passport Scheme) is a scheme available to passport applicants who require their passports urgently or at short notice without going through the regular process. The passport office has the final authority to issue passports under the Tatkal scheme. Passport application under Tatkal scheme is dispatched within one working day excluding the date of submission if police verification is not required.
