Umbrella Scheme for Education of ST Students, Pre-Matric Scholarship 2024-25 for Jammu and Kashmir
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, has launched the Umbrella Scheme for Education of ST Students, Pre-Matric Scholarship 2024-25 for Class 9 and 10 students in Jammu and Kashmir. This initiative aims to reduce drop-out rates during the transition from elementary to secondary education and provide financial support to students from Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities.

- ₹350 per month for hostelers
- ₹150 per month for day scholars

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must:
- Be domiciled in Jammu and Kashmir.
- Belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.
- Be full-time students in Class 9 or 10 in government or recognized schools (including CBSE/SBSE).
- Have an annual family income not exceeding ₹2,50,000.
Additional Support for Students with Disabilities
Students with disabilities attending private unaided schools are eligible for specific allowances under the Inclusive Education of the Disabled at Secondary Stage (IEDSS) scheme:
- Reader Allowance: ₹160/month for blind students.
- Transport Allowance: ₹160/month for non-residential disabled students.
- Escort Allowance: ₹160/month for severely disabled students.
- Helper Allowance: ₹160/month for orthopedic students needing assistance in hostels.
- Coaching Allowance: ₹240/month for mentally challenged students.
Note: Disability must be certified by a competent medical authority as per the Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995.
Documents Required
Applicants need to provide the following:
- Passport-size photograph.
- Disability certificate (if applicable).
- Attested copies of academic certificates/diplomas/degrees.
- Valid caste certificate from a Revenue Officer (not below the rank of Tehsildar).
- Income declaration from parents/guardians.
- Acknowledgment receipt of previous year’s scholarship (if applicable).
Application Process
Eligible students can apply through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) by following these steps:
- Visit the official website: National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
- Register using a valid mobile number, email, or Gmail account.
- Complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) process, including face authentication via the OTR mobile app.
- Log in, navigate to “Apply for Scholarship,” and select the desired scholarship.
- Fill out the application form, upload required documents, and submit.
Important: Ensure accuracy in the application form, as changes cannot be made after submission. Multiple applications will lead to disqualification.
Selection Criteria
Scholarships will be awarded based on the fulfillment of eligibility criteria.
Terms and Conditions
- Scholarships are provided for 10 months in an academic year.
- Students must maintain good conduct and regular attendance.
- Awards are non-transferable to other courses or extended periods of study.
- Scholarships may be discontinued for false information or personal discontinuation of studies.
Renewal of Scholarships
For renewal, students must:
- Demonstrate good conduct and regular attendance.
- Be promoted to the next class/level.
