40% of Teaching Positions Vacant at Central University of Jammu, Reveals RTI,Srinagar: In a recent response to a Right to Information (RTI) application filed by an RTI activist, it has been revealed that the Central University of Jammu (CUJ) currently has approximately 40 percent of its teaching positions vacant. The Central Public Information Officers (CPIOs) of the University provided this information to Raman Sharma, the applicant who filed the RTI application online.

According to the Public Information Officer (PIO) of the university, the sanctioned strength of teaching positions stands at 178, while the present strength of the teaching staff is 107. The response, issued on July 12, 2023, confirms that there are currently 71 vacant teaching positions within the university. In regards to non-teaching staff, the PIO stated that the sanctioned strength is 119, with 32 positions currently vacant.

Responding to the inquiry about student enrollment, the PIO informed Raman Sharma that the university currently has a total of 2,354 enrolled students. This includes 308 SC, 115 ST, 458 OBC, 1 PWD, and 120 EWS students.

However, the PIO did not directly address the query regarding the total intake capacity for students in different courses and departments. Instead, the applicant was referred to the university website and the prospectus for the year 2023-24 for further information.

The high vacancy rate in teaching positions at the Central University of Jammu raises concerns about the potential impact on the quality of education and the university’s ability to fulfill its academic mandate. The university administration may need to take proactive measures to address these vacancies and ensure the availability of qualified faculty to provide a conducive learning environment for the students.kno
