 ENG vs IRE: Ireland batted first and scored 157 runs.  Chasing the target of 111 runs, England could score 105 runs in 14.3 overs for the loss of 5 wickets.T20 World Cup 2022

New Delhi: There was a big upset in the match played between Ireland and England on Wednesday.  Following the Duckworth-Lewis rule, the England team was declared the winner.  Ireland scored 157 runs batting first.  Chasing a target of 111 runs, the England team managed to score 105 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 14.3 overs.  England fell short by 5 runs as per the DLS method.

  After the defeat, England captain Jos Buttler admitted that his team had made a mistake against Ireland.  He also said that he was under pressure to make it to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup.  “I thought we were poor in the first 10 overs.  We were not consistent enough, let them score on both sides of the wicket.  The remaining ten overs were much better.

  Andy Balberney is delighted with the win.

  Butler continued, “Ireland were fantastic, they beat us. We know we made a mistake here and put more pressure on us, but of course if you need to push the game, England-Australia in them.”  Ireland captain Andy Balburnie was delighted with the win against one of the tournament favourites.  “Some of the fans in the crowd have extended their stay,” he added.  Their support has been amazing.  On Friday we have Afghanistan, wait for it.  However, we need to improve.”
