T20 World Cup 2022: Sri Lanka’s tension increased in the middle tournament, three players reached Australia as back-up
T20 World Cup 2022: Sri Lanka have added pacers Asitha Fernando, Matheesha Pathirana and wicketkeeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella as back-up players in the squad after their players suffered injuries.
New Delhi: Sri Lanka’s next match will be against New Zealand on October 29. The Asia Cup winning team is second in the points table after New Zealand. Now both will compete to increase their respective points. On the other hand, Sri Lanka has included some players in their team. Sri Lanka have included fast bowlers Asitha Fernando, Mathisha Pathirana and wicketkeeper-batsman Nirushan Dakwela as back-up players in the squad after their players were injured.
Decision after Banora Fernando’s injury
All three have been called upon to replace players in their main squad when needed. Sri Lanka Cricket High Performance Center Head Tim McKell will also accompany the players to Australia. The decision comes a day after left-arm fast bowler Binora Fernando, who himself replaced Dilshan Madhushanka, suffered a hamstring injury during Sri Lanka’s loss to Australia. He could only bowl five balls in the match before pulling up.
🚨 SLC has decided to send 3 additional players to Australia to remain as backups in the event of any replacements.

Seamer Pramod Madushan also got injured
Binura is the latest Sri Lankan pacer to be injured before and during the T20 World Cup. Earlier, left-arm fast bowler Madushanka has been ruled out due to a quad injury. Fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera was ruled out of the competition on 18 October following an injury to her left leg during the group stage match against UAE. Seamer Pramod Madushan also suffered an injury and has not played since the match against the United Arab Emirates, although he has not yet been officially ruled out.
Danushka Gunathilaka’s blow as injury
In batting, Sri Lanka suffered a setback in the form of Danushka Gunathilaka’s hamstring injury during the group matches. Ashen Bandara was called in as Gunathilaka’s replacement. Sri Lanka have so far defeated Ireland and lost to Australia in the Super 12.
