Jammu-Srinagar Highway Traffic Suspended for Third Consecutive Day :SRINAGAR: The Jammu-Srinagar highway has remained closed for the third consecutive day on Monday. Despite improved weather conditions and increased efforts to restore the road, authorities have announced that the thoroughfare will remain closed on Tuesday as well, according to officials.
The closure of the highway, which is the only surface link connecting the Kashmir Valley with the outside world, was initiated on Saturday due to heavy overnight rains causing multiple landslides. A section of the road measuring around 40 meters near the Panthiyal tunnel in Ramban district was also washed away.
The police stated, “The combined efforts of the administration and NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) throughout the day have led to significant improvement in the road condition. However, complete restoration is expected to take more time.”
Therefore, it has been decided by the administration to suspend traffic on the highway for Tuesday, July 11, 2023. Heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) have been advised to use the Mughal Road as an alternate route for travel between Jammu and Srinagar.
“Traffic is expected to resume on Wednesday, July 12, 2023. However, the next update will be provided tomorrow evening,” stated the police. (GNS)
