Srinagar Fire Services Issues Heatwave Safety Advisory to Protect Residents”: SRINAGAR: In light of the intensifying summer heat and ongoing heatwave alerts across Jammu and Kashmir, the Fire and Emergency Services Command Srinagar has issued an operational preparedness directive to prevent fire-related incidents during the season.

The advisory urges residents to remove flammable materials such as dry leaves, sticks, and cardboard from their surroundings, especially as they may ignite under intense sunlight. It also emphasises proper handling of electrical gadgets, recommending cooling breaks and avoiding overloading of sockets.

Key precautions include switching off electricity before leaving homes, keeping cables uncovered and away from flammable items, safely storing matches and lighters, and avoiding cooking during peak heat hours. Residents are advised to properly extinguish cigarettes, campfires, and avoid burning trash or stubble without supervision.

In particular, the advisory warns farmers to avoid open burning of agricultural waste unless it is monitored closely to prevent re-ignition.
